The "Wakayama Monozukuri Bunka Matsuri 2025 Spring" (Wakayama Manufacturing and Culture Festival 2025 Spring) was held for two days on Saturday, March 8th and Sunday, March 9th, 2025, at Wakayama Castle Hall. Traditional and manufacturing industries from northern Wakayama Prefecture gathered, and visitors were able to experience valuable manufacturing techniques and enthusiasm.
Knitido, a leading five-toe sock manufacturer in Wakayama, held a workshop that visitors could enjoy. In this column, we will introduce the event on the day and the appeal of Knitido's five-toe socks.
Wakayama Monozukuri Bunka Matsuri

The "Wakayama Monozukuri Bunka Matsuri" held in spring 2025 was a great success, with over 7,600 visitors over two days. As it was an opportunity to deepen understanding of "monozukuri" (manufacturing/craftsmanship), which is not often seen, many families and tourists visited and enjoyed themselves.
About Wakayama's Manufacturing Culture
Wakayama Prefecture has long been known as a thriving region for the textile industry. Techniques utilizing the climate and natural features of Kishu developed, and during the Edo period, with the encouragement of the Wakayama domain, cotton weaving and dyeing techniques greatly advanced. While history and tradition have changed with the times, they have been continuously passed down, and today, a new style of manufacturing has been established, combining the introduction of state-of-the-art mechanization and automation with the dedication of skilled artisans.
The "Wakayama Monozukuri Bunka Matsuri" is held to further promote these strengths and pass on the techniques and culture cultivated locally to the future. By bringing together Wakayama's companies and artisans, the festival aims not only to promote regional industry but also to convey the charm of Wakayama's craftsmanship to younger generations and tourists, allowing them to experience both tradition and innovation. It is a valuable opportunity for locals and tourists from outside the prefecture alike to feel close to and learn more deeply about Wakayama's manufacturing culture.
Knitido's Exhibition Details
In April 2022, Knitido opened "TRAILER GARDEN," a commercial facility on the coast of Kainanshi, Wakayama Prefecture, as a regional gathering place. By providing an open space overlooking the sea where visitors can directly experience Knitido's commitment, the company is working to deliver the value of "Wakayama-born" craftsmanship to more people.
At Knitido's booth, we exhibited and sold items such as TRAILER GARDEN series five-toe socks and pilates socks, giving visitors the opportunity to actually pick up and examine the products.
Staff members explained the features and functionality of the socks directly, carefully conveying the differences in comfort and benefits. Many customers showed interest, and many found a pair that suited them and made a purchase, making it an event where the appeal of knitido's five-toe socks could be truly experienced.
Feedback from participants of Knitido's workshop
A workshop was also held at this event. We prepared 33 color samples to allow participants to enjoy designing their own original socks while holding color swatches and fabric samples. Many were seen engrossed in the process of considering their ideal color scheme, touching the samples to check their texture, and coloring in designs on paper to visualize the finished product.
Participants shared delightful comments such as, "There were so many colors to choose from, it was exciting and inspiring," and "I can't wait for the finished product with my favorite color to arrive. I'm sure it will be a pair I'll cherish."
From the designs conceived by the participants in this workshop, one popular color scheme has been selected and will be commercialized as an official Knitido lineup. The chosen design will be carefully knitted by artisans and delivered to many people. The announcement is scheduled for late April, so please look forward to seeing what color scheme of five-toe socks will be chosen.
