What image comes to mind when you hear "five-toe socks"?
For health.
For sports.
For bunion care and cold protection.
Until recently, five-toe socks were just that.
Highly functional.
But not very stylish.
JOY was born in that era.
It all started with the desire to "create socks I want to wear."

The origin of JOY lies in a small brand called "TRAILER GARDEN," which has now been integrated into our main brand.
Knitido has been making five-toe socks for many years. While cherishing that technology and commitment to comfort, a new manufacturing process began with the desire to "deliver five-toe socks that can be enjoyed more as fashion."
At the root of this was a very simple idea.
"I want to make five-toe socks that I want to wear."
Most five-toe socks at the time emphasized functionality.
Cute ones.
Ones that go with everyday clothes.
Ones that can be enjoyed as fashion.
There were very few five-toe socks like that.
"Five-toe socks, huh..."

At that time, five-toe socks had a strong image of being:
"Like health goods."
"Not stylish."
They were comfortable. But there were almost no options that made you think, "I want to wear them because they're cute."
That's why Knitido thought, "There should be cuter five-toe socks."
"Wear them because you like them," not just "for health."
"Choose them because they're stylish," not just "for functionality."
That desire to create a new world of five-toe socks was the beginning of JOY.
From choosing for functionality to choosing for "love."

What JOY aimed for first was "cuteness that makes you want to wear them every day." Choosing patterns for clothes might be a bit daring, but socks can be enjoyed casually. Anyone can try them on their feet.
That's why,
Socks should be freer.
More playful.
More fun.
"These five-toe socks are so cute!"
We want to deliver that kind of surprise.
That desire remains the origin of JOY's craftsmanship even today.
JOY's patterns hold many stories from many people.

JOY's patterns were born from staff ideas. Of course, there were many patterns that didn't turn out as expected. Among them, some patterns were loved by many customers.
Many challenges arose as the brand grew.
JOY's patterns are the accumulation of each of those.
The designs that remain today are comrades who survived many trials and errors.
"They're cute, so why aren't they selling?"

When the brand was first launched, JOY's start was not smooth.
"There are almost no cute five-toe socks. They should reach more people."
That's what we believed.
But the reality was not as easy as we thought. Cuteness alone wasn't enough to get people to pick them up.
There were still strong preconceptions about five-toe socks. But there's a reason we didn't stop.
The factory shop at the time was a place where customers who came to the cafe would casually stop by on their way out. But gradually, more and more customers started saying, "I came to buy socks."
If they wear them once, they'll surely understand the comfort.
That accumulation gradually nurtured the brand.
From "wearing them because they're five-toe" to "wearing them because they're cute."

JOY is not aiming to be a brand solely for five-toe socks.
Choose them because they're cute.
Wear them because you like them.
And it just so happens that they're five-toe socks. That's the future we envision.
It's fine for health reasons. It's fine for comfort. But it doesn't have to be just that.
The joy of choosing your favorite pattern. The happiness when you take off your shoes.
"Those socks are cute." Such conversations arising.
JOY wants to gradually change the image of five-toe socks themselves.
From an era of choosing for functionality to an era of choosing for love.
JOY will continue to bring small joys to your feet every day.
Which pattern will you choose?
Find your favorite JOY.
